For people praying for my Dad - here is the latest: Ill start with the good news. Dad is becoming less confused as the meds are wearing off - like the doctor hoped/expected. Also good news is we are planning for Dad to go home (back to Skaalen in the room he shares with Rhoda) tomorrow afternoon. The hard news is Dad failed his swallowing eval today and the doctor is certain there isnt anything we can do to fix it. Dad was very clear with the doctor today (and it is the same as he has always stated for years) that he does not want a feeding tube and if he cant eat he doesnt want to continue to live. The swallowing problem means food will get into his lungs and cause pneumonia. There is no way to avoid this. So he will be discharged with palliative (hospice) care and support at Skaalen. The plan is to keep his life as normal and active as possible and as the pneumonia sets in to use meds and other non-invasive ways to keep him comfortable. Thanks for continuing to pray for both Dad and Rhoda.
