For the last 8 days I have been off the road and out of uniform. I returned to the road this morning to work my normal duty shift, put on my uniform and headed over to Steak N Shake for breakfast. No less than three people stopped on their way out to thank me for being a police officer and let me know that the police have their full support. I went to pay for my breakfast and the waitress said that a fellow diner had already paid the bill and several other people had asked to buy my breakfast not knowing that it had already been paid for. After that, I responded to a medical call where a woman was transported to the hospital for some serious health issues, but not before she told me she prays for the officers in Ferguson’s safety each night. News media, these people are who make up our community, hundreds of thousands of people that get behind law enforcement and give us the benefit of the doubt. As hard as you try to make us the villain, and report speculated sensationalism, this community still stands behind their police officers. Thousands of local officers have built a relationship with the community based upon trust and credibility. Your attempts to convict an officer in the court of public opinion have failed primarily because you surrendered all credibility long ago and haven’t had the public’s trust since.
