For the past couple of weeks, Brooke has been replaying a script - TopicsExpress

For the past couple of weeks, Brooke has been replaying a script about her last EEG (which she pronounces as a word - eeeeg.) Shes been asking the same list of questions about her EEG hair, (the long wrap around the wires) and what happened when shed gotten it off and Katie came home and asked where it was. (I told Katie the EEG was all done.) Shes been asking who gets EEGs, if Ive ever had one, and if I wish I could. Finally, a couple of nights ago, she asked to see pictures of herself with her EEG hair. And it struck me as I looked at the photos with her - theres something really beautiful in them. And not just in the obvious - her strength and resilience - but in the very fact that this is part of her story. Epilepsy sucks. It just does. But its part of her journey. And even within the hospital visits and amid the neurology appointments and the overnight monitoring and the unanswered questions and the fear -- no, the abject terror -- there was joy. And you cant miss it in the pictures. There are smiles and giggles and there is shadow dancing and chocolate eating ... and there is love. You can see it, cant you? Jumping off the screen in the photo of Brooke and Luau walking down the corridor. Its there, plain as day -- LOVE. And Im so glad that my sweet girl asked to remember a time that I would otherwise have been hell bent on forgetting. Because without the journey back, I never would have allowed myself to have remembered that, even in the darkest moments, there was joy. Thank you, my sweet girl. Once again, you have taught your mama far more than I can hope to teach you. {images are photos of: *Brooke, her hair wrapped in gauze to protect the wires attached to the portable EEG monitor that she is wearing in a backpack on her back, looking up at Luau as they walk, hand in hand, down the hall at Childrens Hospital. She is laughing. *Brooke, leaving Childrens Hospital after another application a year later, decked out in her EEG finest. She is carrying Rapunzel, who she insisted on bringing to the hospital because, well, duh. #ItsAllAboutTheHairPeople *Brooke at home, the wires wrapped in gauze. She is smiling. (Random note, but this photo has always reminded me of The Girl With The Pearl Earring. #JustMe? *Brooke leaving the hospital with her EEG monitor in her backpack. *Returning to the hospital for removal of the wires. She cant contain her excitement to get the dang thing over with, but sadly, we were early and had to wait. In the photo, she is killing time by dancing with her shadow. #AsYouDo *Brooke displaying a Hershey bar that her mama just bought for her upon her request on the way out of the hospital. #ThankGodTheyWerentSellingPonies.
