For those of you who are attending AERA I wanted to mention a session Nick Sousanis (Ph.D. candidate, TC, Columbia, whose dissertation takes the form of a graphic novel) and I are conducting. It is a session exploring the process of doing ABER work. (Saturday, 2:45-4:15, Marriott 4th level, 409). Nick will be presenting some pages from his dissertation graphic novel as a concrete instance of ABER. (He will also be handing out free comic books.) I will be presenting a 10 minute dance/poetry/theoretical thinking ABER piece reexamining a field study I did and published many years ago exploring teachers thinking about the relationship between pleasure and education. The actual piece I will use to discuss process is titled Troix Chaises en la paix and en la guerre, Deux Libraires, la feminine et le masculine, l’enseignment de Rancierre?”. Nick and I will then engage in a discussion of what we do when we do it. I will present a phenomenological account of process. We invite you to attend and continue a conversation about process within the ABER community. I myself have marked on my calendar as many ABER sessions dealing with process as possible (Patricia Leavy, Celeste Snowber, Kathryn Ann Ricketts, Vicky Lynn Kelly, Lynn Fels, Joe Norris, Dustin Ian Garnet, Daryl Ward, Aaron Bodle, Charles Vanover, and so many more are presenting on process. Please forgive me if I have missed you.). Seems we may have a perfect AERA storm of examining the process of making ABER. Let the fun begin.
