For those of you who have the mis-perception that homelessness is - TopicsExpress

For those of you who have the mis-perception that homelessness is a life choice...I would like to say the following words..... Especially in America, today....The tragedy of Homelessness Mam, is in effect induced and is not a life style choice.....The tragedy of Homelessness , can and dose happen to anyone and anywhere...No one is immune....If I may, I would like to share a little of my story with you so that perhaps you may have a better understanding as to what it is I am saying...Growing up I was one of those rich spoiled kinds you see on any one of the life of the rich and famous shows.....On my fathers side I come from a very wealthy and prestigious background....Both politically and financially speaking.... My fathers family are Iranians, and my mother came from a small country town right in the middle of Heart Land USA....During the 1970s my father had been sent by DU-PONT back to Iran, so to oversee and represent their company interests in Iran....However after the 1979 Islamic revolution in that country we were taken captive and held under house arrest for nine long years....Until we weir finally with the help of the U.S Department of State....We weir finally able to escape that country and return home to the states...However we weir forced to leave all of our wealth and positions behind..Now I would like to add that during our time in Iran...My little sister Tina, at the age of 14 do to the biological and chemical bombings of Iranian cities by Saddam Hussein during the Iran/Iraq war of the 1980s contracted a very serious illness which lead to her developing renal failure.... In any event...Not long after our escape and returning to America...My father for whatever reason...One day got up and left my mother, my self and my dying sister....Which meant that my mother was forced to feed and cloth all of us on her own...Of course Mom, was not able to g to work because she had to remain at home and look after my sister..So she was forced to go and sign up on welfare and Housing assistance...Now I want to stress here...That you are talking about a woman ( My mother ) who only a year before...Was living in perhaps one of the most grandest and most luxurious mansions in the city of Isfahan, ( The city we weir living in in Iran )...Also she only wore hand made and tailor made shoes and clothing...Even her very expensive jewelry were also custom and hand made...She even had two in house living maids who had their own living quarters on the house grounds separate from the Manor.....And yet... Now here she was sitting in the welfare office signing up for Food Stamps and Housing benefits??....I would also like to add here that not everything is quite what it seems to be in appearance....I remember how my mother on several occasions while paying for food at the Grocery store using her Food Stamps... The other customers would look her up and down as if she was filth and trash...And yet they had no idea as to how wealthy that very lady was only a year or two before.....You see folks....We should not judge those who are homeless or impoverished at first glance, without first knowing the true circumstance of their lives....After all...Maybe they also like my late dear mother may have a story behind their misfortune which we dont know about. -Darius Radmanesh
