For those of you whose environmental ethic has been influenced by the writings of Edward Abbey or Henry David Thoreau, this workshop might be for you. Jed Feffer will be conducting a half-day workshop titled An Intimate Look at Nature Through Writing on Friday, February 8th at the 2014 MAEOE Conference. A full description of the workshop is below. This is a workshop for anyone wanting to communicate his or her perceptions, reflections or findings of the natural world. It will help you enrich your perception of nature by experiencing other nature writers. We will start out with introducing nature writers through their words and accompanying pictures. We will look at excerpts of several well-known nature writers to examine the particular way these writers experience the natural world and to inspire the participants to have their own intimate experience with nature. We will also take time to heighten our senses, and take a brief, guided meditation to elicit our earliest memories of nature. Participants will have the chance to walk, wander, and observe the world around them then will write about their experience and observations. There will be a chance to share what was written. Please bring a short excerpt of your own nature writing to the workshop, if you can. If not, feel free to bring a short excerpt of a nature writer who inspires you.
