Former World Champion, Joshua Clottey, is set for an ambitious return into the ring after a two year absence. The 35-year-old is scheduled to fight American Dashon Johnson on September 14 in a light-middleweight contest in New York. The bout, which will be Clottey’s first since stopping Calvin Green, in two rounds in Texas, USA, in November 2011, is intended to be a warm-up towards a major fight later in the year or early next year. The fight will also be Clottey’s second fight as a light-middleweight since moving up from the welterweight division where he ruled the world under the International Boxing Federation (IBF). He lost his last two world title opportunities, first to Miguel Cotto rather controversially and then multiple titlist Manny Pacquiao in 2009 and 2011 respectively But the power puncher overpowered Green in spectacular fashion on his way to a second round knockout victory to revive hopes of another possible chance at a world title.
