So we have got to the bottom of it..!! Its okay its only taken us 3 months to work out what is actually going on.. Bigger servers.. ??!!??? i hear you say??.. well our crawlers are already 32 processor SSD based beasts.. but what we have calculated that is many smaller crawlers dedicated to certain areas will be hugely more effective than Charlotte our big spider her siblings .. and Sol the center of our driver universe.. so we will deploying 30 smaller virtual servers / spiders and retiring our bigger ones.. The quote below if from a previous post but it is still relevant!! It is very very difficult to maintain the number of pages that we have to keep up-to-date and relevant. Without exaggeration across all our sites we have around 25 Million pages. It genuinely takes time to carry out the database updates. We can rewrite or re-insert a maximum of around 5 pages a second. Work the days weeks and months on the update times required!.... 57 days for a single update run. so if your FREE download does not work we are sorry and remember we provide the service for FREE...
