From Flickr Pepsi Cola bottling factory, Observatory This was the Pepsi Cola Bottling factory at 372 Main Road till the early 1970s. By 1973 it was being used for hospital storage (didnt Pepsi disinvest at about that time?). It seems to be empty at the moment. This pic c1995. I dont know if Im making this up: aged 12 or so in the early 1950s, I remember passing the Pepsi factory on the upper deck of a bus. There was a long clear-glazed window along the front. Behind it you could see the bottling machinery: the empty bottles coming in on conveyor belt, the liquid going in, the fizz going in, the cap with its cork lining being stamped home. ??? No, I have to be making all that up, surely. Mentioning the cork lining ... at times Pepsi or Coke had pictures behind the cork lining (of fairly dreary famous men if I remember correctly) and as you prized the cork out you had to be careful that your pin didnt scratch the picture. Architect not known.
