From GCSEs to television game shows, our intelligence seems to be judged on what we KNOW. But knowledge is nothing more than the retention of information.. Imagine then, I have a son, i bring him up well, send him to a good school and teach him as best I can from home as well. He Goes to a good university, is in the top 2% of the population with regard to I.Q. and subsequently goes on to cure various forms of cancer, wins a nobel prize and becomes known as a prominent genius of our time. Now, we enter a time machine; its his 1st birthday and he is kidnapped from me and put into a white room, given food through a small hole when required, and all the hygene essentials. This is the case for 20 years. He is never exposed to any form of language, literature, art or music and has absolutely no contact with any other living being whatsoever. He has the same brain, the same potential processing power (to use a computing analogy) but knows absolutely nothing. He has no knowledge of ANYTHING and wouldnt even pass a basic maths or English test designed for a five year old. Is he still a genius? Please discuss as I struggle to conclude this thought exercise. Also, remember folks, instead of looking down on those who seemingly know less than you, give them the tools they need to sculpt their mind into one of a genius. Who knows? They might reveal themselves to be even smarter than you.
