From the Pastor’s Pen Remember When… We recently were able - TopicsExpress

From the Pastor’s Pen Remember When… We recently were able to see family and friends in Illinois and Indiana and enjoyed talking about things we had experienced together. A phrase was used often in those conversations that led me to this article. I noticed how often we used the phrase, “Remember when…” We would then proceed to recount an event (an adventure or disaster depending on your point of view) by telling what we remembered about it. We laughed and sometimes cried remembering our shared experience. Memory is a wonderful thing. God allows us to recall things that happened to us in the past and draw strength and enjoyment from those events. Sometimes our memories are of difficulties through which we have come. Remember when…It is a phrase that causes introspection and consideration. There are several “Remember When’s” that every child of God should visit often in their minds: 1. Remember when God saved you Deuteronomy 16:3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life. The Passover Feast was given to Israel as a reminder of when God delivered them from Egypt. It reminded them of the Passover Lamb. – That is a picture of the Salvation purchased for us by the Blood of Christ. The Bible records the Apostle Paul recounting his salvation story many times. Paul never got over what God did for him on the road to Damascus. When was the last time you sat and “remembered when” God saved you? When was the last time you spoke to someone about it? When was the last time you spoke to the person who helped you come to Christ? Remember when! 2. Remember when God Delivered You Over and over into Old Testament God instructed the Children of Israel to remember the times that He had delivered them. Sometimes it was when he delivered them from circumstances, other times it was when He delivered them from an enemy. God delivers again! Exodus 13:18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt. Psalm 136:13 To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever: Psalm 136:15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever. Deuteronomy 25:17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt; Take some time today to “remember when” God protected you from danger. Maybe He helped you avoid auto accident. It could be when He delivered you from a situation at work. It may be when He healed you physically. 3. Remember when He spoke to you Luke 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, At the empty tomb the angel instructed the disciples to remember how Jesus had spoken to them while they were in Galilee. It was a way to build their faith and to help them understand what Jesus had said. We should be careful to remember when and how God speaks to us. It may be in our personal devotions. It may be during a song service. Or it may be through a song or a statement by someone else. It would be good to get in the habit of writing down when god speaks to us and how He spoke to us. What a joy to know that the God of Heaven cares enough to speak to us! “Remember When…”
