From the linked article: “You don’t think of water as privilege until you don’t have it anymore. Yesterday, I saw a man washing his already relatively clean car in front of his San Francisco home, just listening to his tunes and enjoying the warm weather...while he expended gallons of water unnecessarily. Today, a pleasant looking older man stood chatting with a neighbor while he left his hose running; the water overflowed his flower bed and ran into the street. These are San Franciscans...during Californias worst drought in recent memory. Meanwhile, as this NY Times story reports, other Californians have been without running water for over 5 months. Perhaps because I grew up in rural Virginia, it infuriates me when urbanites dont get their role in natural systems. Just because one is more insulated from the pain doesnt mean it isnt happening. Im at a loss to explain why the state isnt cracking down, hitting people using water indiscriminately with $500+ fines. nytimes/2014/10/03/us/california-drought-tulare-county.html?_r=0
