GATORADE is a very popular sports drink. Many believe it is an excellent choice for rehydration and replenishment of minerals during athletic competition. Lets look at the nutritional facts for 12 fl. oz. (355 ml): 21 g. carbohydrate (21 g. sugar), 160 mg sodium and 45 mg of potassium - thats it. This is basically sugar water! The high sugars will rapidly increase blood-glucose levels causing a rapid release of insulin. The insulin quickly drops blood-glucose levels causing the athlete to require more sugar (i.e. Gatorade). This is a VERY UNHEALTHY CYCLE. A far better choice would be to drink COCONUT WATER to rehydrate and replenish minerals. Coconut water is a clear sweet liquid obtained from young coconuts (not to be confused with coconut milk). Coconut water is packed with electrolytes and minerals to replenish dehydration within the body. The nutritional facts for 12 fl. oz. (355 ml) of coconut water are: 13.17 g. carbohydrate (simple sugars), 2.56 g. protein, 0.71 g. fat, 373 mg. sodium, 887 mg potassium and additional minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese and zinc. In addition, coconut water supplies healthy bioactive enzymes, B-complex vitamins, some vitamin C and phyto-hormones. A FAR HEALTHIER thirst quencher than Gatorade would be the very healthy coconut water. youtube/watch?v=Sz1su85r3hg
