=GEAR-TRACKING DEVICES= With all this talk about stolen gear Ive been thinking about how it would be great if we could track our stuff remotely. Ive ordered some Tiles (keychain-sized squares) for my car keys and wallet. However, they only have a range of ~30m so it wont help unless your neighbour has stolen your guitar. I havent had much luck finding long-range, long-term, low-maintenance trackers. Most of them are designed for vehicles, but they look like they could easily fit inside a head or a cab. Putting one inside a guitar control cavity sounds a bit trickier, but theres no reason you cant stash one in the guitar case (you could even cut a hidden pouch in the accessories compartment) since I imagine most guitars are stolen in their cases. > ARKNAV R-35 Pros: Has a sleep period of ~3 years during which it sends regular location reports. It also has a tamper cable that will alert when removed and initiate real-time tracking. Cons: I cant find any purchasing information... also no idea how much it costs. arknavgps.tw/style/frame/templates15/product_detail.asp?lang=2&customer_id=221&name_id=1229&content_set=color_2&rid=23440&id=107236 > Bicycle-Tracking Devices Pros: >$200 with cheap intl shipping, small enough to fit in some control cavities, tube-shaped one charges once a year, armed with a tap of a keychain, activates upon sensing movement. Cons: Have to arm it every time you leave it alone, activates upon sensing movement. integratedtrackers/GPSTrack/Products.jsp Are there any tech enthusiasts or GPS/radio engineers who know of other more convenient tracking systems suited for musical instruments?
