GEJ 2015 ARTICLE NO.4 THE GEJ YouWIN! YOUTH EMPOWERMENT MARCH 2014 This is the 4TH in our series of articles on GEJ Transformation that will be posted on this page every month till the swearing in of GEJ for the 2nd term. The articles will cut across diverse areas of GEJ Transformation programmes and projects. Reasoned comments are welcome. Enjoy it! YouWiN! stands for Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria. It is an innovative business plan competition aimed at job creation by encouraging and supporting aspiring entrepreneurial youth in Nigeria to develop and execute business ideas. The YouWiN! program is one of the many avenues the Jonathan administration is using to tackle youth unemployment in Nigeria through empowering young people across the nation to become a part of the solution to creating a better Nigeria. Since its inception, YouWiN! has achieved tremendous success in job creation for the Nigerian youths. As of June 2013, a total of 14,025 direct jobs (see chart in the attached photo; and 27,000 in November, 2013) have been created from activities of the 1,200 flagship edition’s beneficiaries. YouWIN! is a collaboration of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Communication Technology (CT), the Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. The programme launches annual Business Plan Competition (BPC) for aspiring young entrepreneurs in Nigeria in line with the Federal Government’s drive to create more jobs for Nigerians. The programme is implemented in partnership with Nigeria’s private sector that provides funding support. YouWiN! Women was the second edition of the entrepreneurial scheme which was designed for only female entrepreneurs aged 45 years or below. YouWiN! 3 is gearing up now. It will feature men and women entrepreneurs in Nigeria between the ages of 18 to 45. Participants have to be Nigerian citizen aged between 18 - 45 years; have post secondary education; have a proposed business idea that will operate in Nigeria and employ Nigerians; and you have to apply online. If you are eligible, get on it. See success stories in the attached photos. Let the Transformation Continue!
