GRAMBLING RAMBLING: HAPPY IN EAST AFRICA? While I have been using Saturday mornings to post Happy videos from the regions in Africa, I cannot categorize this post as a Happy one. For me, the images of the countries in East Africa are heartbreaking. Eritria, Somolia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan. These are areas of extreme poverty. These are the areas we see on television. Again, heartbreaking. There is a video from the School of St. Jude in Tanzania. It is a boys school, but the students there are from some of the areas poorest families. For me, posting this feels like exploitation. The same is true of a video done at an orphanage. The number of orphans in Ethiopia alone is overwhelming. And so rather than post a song, I go to a moment of silence, a moment of prayer, a moment of thought, and a moment of question. Why is this condition as it is, and is there anything I can do to make it better? Have a safe and blessed weekend, Grambling. Enjoy!
