*****GREAT NEWS***** Long but bloody good post :-) Just got back from the foot specialist who was amazing, his opening line was “I am thinking of joining my sons who are marathon runners would you recommend Paris or Rome” So I knew he was ok with the whole distance running. Anyway he confirmed that I do NOT have osteoarthritis in my small toes but I do have arthritis on my big toe which is nothing to worry about and very common. He also confirmed the tears in my ligaments have healed and are just scars and confirmed they are very old injuries and very unlikely to get any worse and would not be affected in anyway from running. And he also said the drawback from running were far outweighed by the other health benefits like heart and my diabetes. Best of all he told me that my foot pain was very likely to be deferred pain from my lower back, probably a pinched nerve and that it will not effect my running nor will it get any worse and that I need to see my physio to get some back stretches which should help and even cure it. Lastly he thinks my driving position could be to blame and I have sorted that. I asked him about pain killers and he said I have seen you runners after a race, you seem to enjoy pain so suck it up he was definitely my kind of guy He finished by saying, you clearly love running so suck up the pain and run ☺ this made me a very happy chap. So this one of us is off to book a marathon or 2 ☺ Thank you all for the care and support you have shown over the past few months, you are all awesome and I can now finally get back to training properly knowing that I am not causing any long term damage.
