Gaining Knowledge…… KNOWLEDGEABLE = Informed, Educated, Experienced, Learned… Humans are the best of Allah SWT’s creation, even higher in rank than angels, because He Has given us the power to acquire KNOWLEGDE. Through our ability to learn, we can choose between right and wrong, and continually improve [live peacefully -ISLAM - the way He Has intended for us]… So, we must struggle to learn all that is beneficial to us (that which keeps us on the right path). We must also make an effort to practice what we learn otherwise our knowledge is of no use to us and we will be answerable. For this reason, Allah SWT tells us in the Holy Qur’an: ‘And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning)’ [17:36] Our Holy Prophet SAWW has also emphasized this by stating: ‘A true learner is he who practices what he knows’ Learning allows us to KNOW the experiences of others, so we can use this (practice) and improve our lives by developing our thinking/understanding - away from mistreatment, greed, injustice, materialism and other evils… We learn in many ways. E.g.: reading (books, stories, papers), watching (media, documentaries, news), observations (experiments, nature), games, debates, gatherings, poetry, rhymes, Internet.. Holy Prophet SAWW emphasized that seeking knowledge is obligatory upon Muslims and emphasized it as a ‘cradle-to-grave’ (lifelong) mission. He also said the knowledge seeker were the best of his followers. Hence a Muslim has to be KNOWLEDGEABLE. Seeking knowledge is regarded as struggling in the way of Allah SWT and considered as a form of worship like prayer, fasting, pilgrimage etc. Anything that involves thinking or reflecting helps to gain knowledge. We can gain knowledge in many ways – reading, seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling etc. Communicating with Allah (SWT).... One day a construction supervisor, from 6th floor of a building, was calling a worker, working on the ground floor. Because of the construction noise, the worker on ground floor did not hear his supervisor calling. To draw the attention of the worker, the supervisor threw a 10 rupee note from up, which fell right in front of the worker. The worker picked up the 10 rupee note, put it in his pocket & continued with his work. Again, to draw the attention of the worker, the supervisor now threw a 500 rupee note & the worker did the same, picked up the 500 rupee note, put it in his pocket & started doing his job. To draw the attention of the worker, the supervisor now picked up a small stone & threw it on the worker. The stone hit exactly on the workers head. This time the worker looked up & the supervisor communicated with him. This story is the same as that of our life. Allah (SWT) wants to communicate with us, but we are too busy doing our worldly jobs. Allah (SWT) gives us small gifts & we just keep on with our lives without seeing where we got it from. Then Allah (SWT) gives us more amounts (gifts) & we are still the same. Just keep the gifts without seeing where they come from & without thanking Him. We just say we are LUCKY. When we finally get hit with a small stone, which we call problems, than we look up & we communicate with Allah (SWT). So every time we get a gift, we should thank Him immediately, and not wait till we are hit by a small stone before communicating with Allah (SWT)....
