********Gazette Report********* Berkhamsted travelled to Rosedale Bowls Club in Cheshunt in the National over 60s competition (two rinks of mixed bowling) it was the first time Berkhamsted had entered this competition and they acquitted themselves reasonably well considering that the Rosedale ladies were all County players winning on one rink and losing on the other; but the overall score went to Rosedale 50 shots to 33. Berkhamsted Ladies have had another fine week Tuesday they hosted Kitchener’s in the County League winning 22 shots to 16 then they visited Met Police on Thursday also in the County League and won again this time 21 shots to 17, the teams consisted of Carole Dunn, Anne Furlong, Marcia Pearce , Lesley Brown, Jackie Cormack and Mary Clarke. Despite Eric Lloyd, Jane Low and Frank Cutting Top rink exploits Wednesday ‘s friendly Triples match against St Albans was a disaster the visitors going down by 17 shots in a 59 -76 thriller. On a better note County Triples winners Mary Clarke, Mary Millar and Alice Biggs are now through to the quarter finals of this competition after beating a team from Bishop Stortford; David Brown and Kevin Clarke had a delightful 24shots to 15 win over local rivals D Gomm and P Bunting (Potten End) in the Men’s County Pairs. Friday night saw the commencement of the W & D Men’s Evening Triples competition playing against Tring on the home and away basis Berkhamsted lost 33 – 38 overall. Yesterday also saw the commencement of the Dacorum Charity Shield competition Berkhamsted had drawn Kitchener’s in the first round; despite the best efforts of Carole Dunn, Liz temple, Mary Millar and Jackie Cormack’s in winning the Ladies rink Berkhamsted Lost 2 – 1 but did win the friendly.
