Upon takingGypsy bar and restaurant in Westlands has been making headlines this week for not very good reasons. Apparently, a customer spotted a cockroach in her food and took the matter online. Shallom Ciru swears there was a cockroach in her food, and she even has a picture to prove it. Upon taking up the matter with the club management, Shallom and her friends were offered a partial refund, which they apparently declined. This was the ‘review’ they posted on Tripadvisor. Quite appalled by their service on the 23rd of September 2014! And it was a first visit for most of us, in a group of 6. 1. They serve us cockroach which wasn’t even part of our menu… nor was it what we ordered 2. Their manager Francis Wood, was unapologetic about it… Disgusted by their service and hygiene! Disgruntled customer! After this complaint to them, this was their DISGUSTING RESPONSE to my collegue (Please note we paid the bill in full, about $200 or Kshs 18,000) : “Dear S, The cockroach was found in the starter portion of your meal. However after complaining, and voicing your disgust, you and the other 6 people on the table continued and completed your main course with satisfaction, You then demanded a full discount on all the items consumed ..threatening to post your carefully taken photo on social media and other media.. Francis rightly offered you a partial discount. We note with interest that the cockroach is on the plate and not put aside, which any reasonable person would have done. Your picture clearly shows that you enjoyed the dish with the cockroach on it. You may have found this an opportune moment to claim a free meal for you and others on the table. This was not possible as your table happily consumed all the food ordered despite the cockroach. This seemed contradictory, and attempting to claim a free meal with threats was done in bad taste. Gipsy Bar strives to provide a quality product at all times and we highly regret this incident. Gipsy Bar” The manager was in no way remorseful for the incident. I have attached the said cockroach. And if anyone would like a video of the other roach that was walking around non-challantly, let me know, i shall gladly share it with you. They should be ashamed for the kind of treatment they dished us. After the story was picked up by a few blogs, the management got angry and declared Shallom and her crew persona non grata. Writing on Facebook yesterday, she says that her boss was kicked out of the club for ‘spoiling their reputation’. Here’s her post. Shit just got hella real!!! My boss from Singapore who we were with on#gipsyroachday just got kicked out of of @gipsybar … Reason… Verbatim “you and your colleagues posted the cockroach issue and the video. It has spoilt our reputation. We don’t want to serve you shit food” These are his exact words for spending $180 I ’m not sure if we’ll be seeing the end of this anytime soon. Ⓒ 2014 Nairobi Wire
