Glad I dont live on Snowhill Rd! The Times-Tribune Police find gun, ammo they say belonged to Frein STAFF REPORT Published: September 21, 2014 Police said this afternoon they have recovered an AK-47-style gun and ammunition that belongs to Eric Frein, the man suspected of killing one state trooper and injuring another outside the Blooming Grove barracks. Also, early this evening, police were searching an area of Snow Hill Road in Price Twp. The road was closed, as was a portion of Route 447. Earlier in the day, authorities said they believe Mr. Frein is in the area and they are focusing their search along the border of Pike and Monroe counties. Speaking at a 3 p.m. press conference, Lt. Col. George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations, said they believe Mr. Frein had been planning the attack for some time and most likely did surveilllance on the Blooming Grove barracks. “Based on our investigation, we know Frein has prepared and planned extensively for months or maybe years,” Col. George said. He planned his attack and his retreat -- however, we believe we are closing in on him.” “Up until now his advantage has been that this is his backyard, he knows this rugged terrain. Our tactical operations people now also know his backyard, the area he once felt safe in – we are pushing him hard, he is no longer safe there and I am confident he will be apprehended.” Meanwhile, police continued their search for Mr. Frein today. State police said they had no contact with Mr. Frein during their search overnight Saturday. Residents in Barrett and Price townships, where the search has been centered, were ordered to take shelter in place and stay away from windows and other areas leading to the outdoors. That order was lifted last night. However, this morning, state police recommend those residents in the affected area continue to use extreme caution and stay in their homes and do not go in the woods where law enforcement are searching. PSP (Pennsylvania State Police) does not have Frein in custody, however our troopers are determined to find him and bring him to justice, said Trooper Kelly in an email this morning. Mr. Frein, 31, 308 Seneca Lane, Canadensis, is accused of using a .308 caliber rifle to shoot and kill Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II, 38, of Dunmore, and wound Trooper Alex T. Douglass, 31, of Olyphant, at the Blooming Grove state police barracks in Pike County on Sept. 12. Police have been searching for Mr. Frein since Monday, when a man walking his dog in a wooded area off Route 6, two miles north of the barracks, spotted Mr. Frein’s parents’ Jeep Cherokee half-submerged in a retention pond. Inside the Jeep were his Social Security card, shell casings matching the ones found at the scene, military gear and information on foreign embassies. On Friday night and most of Saturday, police closed Bear Town Road and surrounding streets, including Blue Ridge Drive, which is about a quarter-mile from the home in Pocono Outpost where Mr. Frein lives with his parents. The area is heavily wooded. Many residents were stranded Friday night and early Saturday until the roads were reopened Saturday night and residents were allowed to return to their homes. State police say that Mr. Frein, a self-described survivalist, has a long-standing grudge with law enforcement. Mr. Frein has taken part in World War II and Cold War battle re-enactments, and has expressed a hostility toward law enforcement officers. He is also considered a skilled marksman. Mr. Frein is considered armed and dangerous. The FBI added him to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on Wednesday. The FBI also activated hundreds of billboards throughout Pennsylvania and five other states yesterday that display two photos of Mr. Frein and a phone number to call for tips on his whereabouts. As the manhunt continues, state police issued a number of recommendations: Be alert and vigilant. If you see any vehicles or individuals that are out of the ordinary, please report them to 911 or the state police tip line, 1-866-326-7256, immediately. Do not approach any suspicious persons or vehicles, but report them immediately. The suspect is still considered armed and dangerous. Lock all doors to both your residence and your vehicles. At night, keep the exterior of your home well-lit. Look for open shed doors or other locations that were once secure but now appear open, and immediately report the information.
