“God so love the world that he gave his only Son, so that - TopicsExpress

“God so love the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (Jn 3:16) Today’s focus perhaps the most important verse in the Bible, has three key points for us to reflect on: humility, obedience and the promise of salvation. 1. Jesus although God, humbled himself to come down to earth and be born human, live as a man and finally die a humiliating death on the cross as a criminal. His sole purpose was to assure us eternal salvation. What are we doing in return? 2. Jesus obeyed his Father, even though he enjoyed equal status with the Father. He suffered death despite being total innocent. We are asked to obey the commandments and follow God’s will in our lives. Do we? 3. Our Father in heaven did this because he loved us, his creatures, so much. He wanted that none of us should ever suffer the ignominy of eternal damnation even though the price of our salvation was heavy – the death of his only Son. Are we grateful? Salvation is assured on just one condition. As peter tells us, ‘Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out’. The rest has been accomplished by Christ on the cross. FRUIT: Let me make my life worthwhile as it has been won at great cost. Let me do something today which makes a difference to someone.
