Going by the Islamic calendar, it is now seven years and three months, and exactly seven years in the Gregorian calendar, when some unidentified assailants brutally killed our Kano-based erudite Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmood Adam. He was killed while observing Subh prayer in his Dorayi Juma’ah mosque. The security agencies and the Kano State government promised to fish out the culprits and bring them to book, but seven years after his demise, nothing has been heard or seen about the matter. The legacies left behind by Sheikh Ja’afar will remain indelible in the minds of all Muslims in Nigeria and beyond. We are, however, consoled by our belief in predestination. Muslims believe that nothing happens without the knowledge of Allah. We are really pained by the death of our scholar, preacher and the voice of the voiceless, who always stood on the side of the true teaching of Allah’s religion: Islam, through the Qur’an.
