Good Friday is great day to reflect on what is the outcome when religious group thinking and zealotry align with political bureaucracy. Jesus of Nazareth was welcomed like a rock star a mere week prior. Then, in an act of jealousy, fear, self preservation and continued religious supremacy the Jewish authorities accuse him of blasphemy and other transgressions against Judaism decide to see him executed. Having no power to call for his execution, they decide to bring him before a Roman Governor by the name of Pontius Pilate, who consents to the execution but cowardly washes his hand of the responsibility. Thus the brutal murder of an innocent man of peace and love who many believe to be the son of God takes place. This is the most well known act of barbarism brought on by religious zealots, neither the first or last but most certainly the most important to Christians worldwide. The act of Jesus death is the very cornerstone of modern Christianity, followed by his claimed resurrection 3 days later are two most important religious holy days. These events are followed closely with many years of Christian persecution, which is the followed by hundreds of years of brutality towards other lesser religions and pagan non believers by Catholicism. It is only in modern times that that most of the violence in the name of Christ has come to an end. Have your faith and system of beliefs keep them between you and God, because organized religions are not very different than governments and their flocks, especially the zealots can easily be whipped up into an angry mob. Many more of faith should follow the the preachings and teachings of the man Jesus of Nazareth at the very least, the world would be a much better place.
