Good Monday Morning from the Many Police Department. The MPD was busy over the weekend with various calls, most being disturbances. Some of the complaints filed included: Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart on Saturday for a reported shoplifting. According to store employees, they tried to stop a suspected shoplifter in the parking lot of the store, but the male ran and left the store in a gold mercury. A photo of the subject and vehicle was obtained from store surveillance cameras and a search was made for the vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located at a local motel. A male and female were detained and questioned. The suspects admitted taking two pair of panties from Wal-Mart without paying. While officers were retrieving the items from their vehicle, officers located what appeared to be drug making chemicals and containers in the back seat. These items included a bottle of lye, can of Coleman fuel, one bottle of liquid fire, with other containers and tubes. A SPSO narcotics officer was called to assist. The 32 year old Many, La. man was cited for misdemeanor theft and other narcotic charges are pending. Officers responded to a disturbance on Henry Street after a caller reported she wanted a friend removed from her house. According to the caller, her friend had been staying at her house and everything was fine until he started drinking today. She stated she started preparing him a meal and he entered the kitchen and made a mess of all the food. She wanted him gone. Officers talked to both and cleared the call. At 10:58 pm on Saturday Officers were sent to Highland Avenue where a group of juveniles were reported fighting on the street. When officers arrived, the fight had ended and the crowd had disbursed. Both MPD and SPSO units patrolled the area to prevent another incident. However at 11:35pm another caller reported juveniles fighting on Caledonia Street. Officers found a large crowd of people in the street and some were fighting. Additional officers were called and after repeated attempts to disburse the crowd, chemical spray was used. The crowd quickly disbursed and left the scene. Officers from the SPSO assisted. At 12:08am Sunday a caller from Esso Drive reported a 19 year old male had come into her yard and struck her 16 year old daughter in the face and she wanted him arrested. Officers interviewed the daughter and this case is continuing with charges pending. Officers received a report of a battery that took place on Byles Street at 5:55 am Sunday morning. According to the home owner, two males had fought while in her house. Earlier she had made her boyfriend leave because of an altercation, and then her ex-husband later came by and she let him in to visit his daughter. It was then that the boyfriend crawled thru the window and tackled the ex-husband, who then struck the boyfriend over the head with a baseball bat. Both subjects were cited and the boyfriend taken to SMC to be treated for head wounds. Other calls that the MPD responded to included a prowler on Fisher Road, vandalism on Mollie Street, a tree down on Robinson Street, several locked vehicles, several activated alarms and one report of a naked lady walking down Middle Creek Road.
