Good evening! Are we all well? We hope so. Its that time again... Meet The Artists! Ladies and gentlemen we are very pleased to announce that THE FUNADDICTS from Australia are back by popular demand and will appear on Specialized 3 - Mad Not Cancer!. The guys this year will be performing Tomorrows Just Another Day . Their track Jeanette was a highlight for many on Specialized 2. The Funaddicts is a 2nd wave Ska band from Brisbane, Australia who emerged in the mid-80s and quickly gained a solid reputation for high energy ska gigs around the East coast of Australia. Taking inspiration from the British and Australian bands of the time like The Specials, Madness, The Beat, Bad Manners, Allniters and Strange Tenants, the Funaddicts attempted to combine the fun and frivolity of Ska/Reggae with politically based lyrics, best exemplified in songs like Mandela, Greed & Power and Queensland, while toons like Whats Going On and All Day Till Midnight showcased their nuttier good-time side. In 1987, the band scored a #1 position on the 4zzz charts for their independently released single “Mandela/What’s Going On?, the latter winning an Qld Sunnie Award for best original song. After disbanding in the early 90s, in 2011, members of the group decided to dust off their boots, uncover some old recordings and most importantly reform and start playing gigs around Australia. Last year the band returned to the studio to record the Beat cover “Jeanette’ as part of the UK Specialized 2 – Beat Cancer album which was internationally released in august to critical acclaim and is currently raising much needed funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The track “All Day Till Midnight” recorded in the late ‘80’s has also been re-released on the digital download album – Ska Lives 3. An 8 track EP of their earlier material has been released through bandcamp and will be in hard copy form early 2014. The Funaddicts are now preparing a new album for release during 2014 which will contain old and new favourites recorded by the current line up!
