Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends along the east coast from a weak high near New Zealand. The ridge will gradually weaken as the high drifts further southeast by Friday. A surface trough will enter the southwest of the state during today and continue moving eastwards, with an upper level trough to follow through southern Queensland on Friday. A new high over Western Australia combined with a low off the southern New South Wales coast on the weekend should push cooler and drier air into Queensland from the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. Cloud increasing in the west with patchy rain developing in the southwest. Isolated showers in the northwest of the state. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh about the east coast. Winds becoming south to southwesterly in the far west of the state.
