Got back from Bristol Eye Hospital at around 8.00 pm, having left at 6.30am this morning - lift to Truro, then bus and train. Train home arrived just in time to miss bus home.... so two hour wait... gap in Greyhound timetable... It was a checkup three weeks after surgery to repair a detached retina. Healing well, repeat appearance at Bristol in about four weeks... A pain in the ass (how would someone from Scilly manage? Go blind, I suppose...) but if it saves the sight in that eye... The down side is that due to the surgery a cataract will develop in 12-24 months... which will require another procedure by a surgeon - not just a cataract surgeon, but one who does retinal/vitrinal surgery, due to the risk (now without vitrious humour in that eye) the the lens will fall into the eye and have to be fished out... which the retinal/vitrinal guys are smart at, it seems. Maybe they have more practice cos they have dropped more lenses... I didnt like to ask... Vitrious humour? I laughed a lot. I can drive again now (if I had a car...) and will be able to play sax again in a week. I will be able to lift heavy weights, garden etc. as soon as the gas bubble they put in my eye is replaced by liquid... which may be a week or two. Onward and upwards...
