Gov. Orji Orders Arrest of Journalist for Critiques of Abia What an outrage!!! Alas: the foolish despotism-inspired governor thinks he is a god! Critical news reports and articles about him, amount to blasphemy. These kinds of tin gods, should have their alters destroyed, before they begin to demand human sacrifice. I think the National legislature, should immediately begin an impeachment procedure, by which the demigod of a governor might be thrown out of office. Meanwhile, the mass media should be united in their calls for the impeachment and removal from office, of this idol god of his political fantasy. The members of the Nigerian Bar Association should also seek out an aggrieved individual in the state, to sue the governor and his state for violating his/her constitutional rights. Indeed, following the legal developments in the United States (the Nigerian Constitution is similar to the U.S. Constitution), the NBA should be able to take on the Nigerian Union of Journalists, as an aggrieved party, in such a legal action. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that corporations are persons under the constitution. The NUJ is a person, under the Nigerian constitution. The freedom of speech and of the press is partly there to ensure, that government does not produce these kinds of gods and despots, who invariably hallucinate from the poisonous fumes, which come from their deadly alters. The country should ensure that this particular self-worshiping god is quarantined, before his deadly fumes, spread across the country and the continent of Africa. There is no guarantee, that in a country where many people are yet to fully understand the fact that there can be no democratic self-government, without the freedom of speech and of the press, most Nigerians will even support the mass media here. However, there are good reasons, why fundamental rights do not depend on popular acclamation for their validity and their constitutional protection. I thank you.
