Governor Joey Sarte Salceda says: The local government does not - TopicsExpress

Governor Joey Sarte Salceda says: The local government does not own and manage Aleco. We only try to help and support the efforts of the Diocese of Legazpi, NEA and DOE who have been the management in almost three years now when the BOD were asked to resign en masse. The Provincial Government of Albay has no expertise [and is not interested] in running an electricity distribution utility like Aleco or any other business for that matter that is better left to the private sector which includes propriertorships, cooperatives and corporations or civil society organizations. Thus, in the current situation involving a private entity but invested with public interest, we have limited goals: a. restore power supply by helping Aleco reacquire access to the electricity markets in the shortterm, b. ensure a disconnection does not recur in the medium term and c. lower power rates in the longer term. And that is what we have set out to do, "SECURE A RECONNECTION AS EARLY AS TWO DAYS". With respect to the eventual disposition of Aleco, the province is neither predisposed nor has it been asked to propose or pursue a course of action. But under our executive mandates as elected officials, we have chosen to support the position of the Diocese of Legazpi.
