Grassroot referendum signatures collection starts on Saturday-Raila Cord Principal Raila Odinga has said the collection of the one million signatures for the referendum in the grassroots will start on Saturday across the country. “We are starting collection of signatures in the grassroots across the country on Saturday so that we have more than the one million required by the law as we prepare for the referendum,” he said. Raila will spearhead the collection of signatures in Migori County while the other Cord Principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula will lead the process in Embakasi and Western Kenya respectively. Raila told off critics who have been saying that referendum calls are ill timed as its too early and country cannot afford a referendum. “Referendums are always held in between elections and those saying that its too early and expensive for a referendum should be told the new constitution was passed in 2010 and so its amendment is long overdue,” he said. “In 2010, those who voted for NO were insisting that that 20% of the constitution needed to be amended and we said no, the time has now come and we have to correct those wrongs that are tearing down the good constitution,” Raila Said. Raila was addressing youth leaders from around Nairobi County who were airing their views on the Okoa Kenya movement. He was accompanied by Homa Bay Womens Representative Gladys Wanga and Silvance Osele Onyango, the 26-year old new Member of Parliament of Kabondo Kasipul constituency.
