HEALTH TIP: Pay attention to your gut-flora: The vagus nerve connects your gut and brain. Research shows a definite link between dysbiosis (poor balance of gut flora) and mental disorders. Good gut bacteria send the right signals up the vagus nerve to the brain for healthy neurotransmitter production. On the other hand, toxins, including pathogens from bad gut bacteria, deplete these neurotransmitters and lead to impaired signalling. This would have a negative effect on brain health and the whole body. Steps to promote a healthy gut: 1) Avoid high sugar consumption, highly processed foods, gluten, pesticide-sprayed foods, antibiotics. 2) Eat foods that promote good bacteria in the gut, such as fermented vegetables. 3) Take a high-quality probiotic, and a good pre-biotic supplement.
