HH: QUALITY JOBS COMING UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has promised to create more jobs if elected republican president in the January 20 poll. Mr Hichilema said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that it is sad that thousands of young Zambians are still unemployed because of lack of proper economic management as well as lack of investment in the country’s education sector. He said that if elected, he will focus on youth employment to help address the high poverty levels in the country. “The efforts by the government to create jobs are not enough. Thousands of young Zambians enter the labour market each year. Without proper economic management, investment in education, and a focus on driving growth, only a small number of new jobs can be created and unemployment will remain a big problem,” he said. “Instead of the 200,000 decent jobs Zambians were promised, we have farmers who have not been paid, civil servants facing a wage freeze and a cost of living that has increased across the country.” Mr Hichilema said it is sad that many of the jobs that Government has created have been on casual basis, adding that if elected, he will combine better economic management, youth empowerment, and education and training reform to create more jobs. He said his government will also empower Zambians with business ideas by providing support through increasing access to relevant training and affordable credit. “We must also work towards a situation where all Zambians, regardless of their gender or tribe, have the same opportunities available to them in terms of education and training. Job vacancies must be filled according to merit and using open procedures,” Mr Hichilema said. READ MORE; tumfweko
