HOW TO SUCCEED IN UGANDA I have a message that I shared under my Saturday Vision column a few weeks ago and I got hundreds of responses from all over the world. I felt it might change your life. It will give you one reason why many Ugandans are not getting successful. In ‘Prison Break’ series you see prisoners trying to do all they can to break the prison and escape. Sometimes they take days and days digging a hole only to reach a dead end and but get the courage to start afresh. In the series T-Bag repeatedly talks of avoiding the ‘captivity of negativity’. This speaks volumes to us at this point in time when a general wave of discouragement has engulfed a section of Ugandans – what’s being referred to as ‘obukoowu’ (weariness or tiredness). Some married people will refuse to take care of the needs of their spouses and say they are ‘bakoowu’. Many voters dodge casting their votes and claim ‘bakooye’. There are employees who get rude to customers and they say it’s because of ‘obukoowu’. These days someone will throw kasasiro in the road and say it’s because ‘akooye’. When it gets to some opposition politicians it gets worse. They want to give an impression that the political climate is too bad to change. But most likely they are just too tired to come up with any new constructive idea to suggest; so all they can do is criticize and criticize and criticize. My advice for you, who needs to succeed in your endeavors, is to never get too tired to do what you must do. If you become too tired for your marriage your neighbor might take over. If you get tired for your business customers will seek service elsewhere. If you dare get too tired for your God, it’s your own spiritual life to suffer. We need energy, zeal, stamina, determination to continue doing what we must do to achieve our goals. Can you get too tired to eat? When you meet a snake can you say you are too tired? You have to either get a weapon and hit its head or spring up and run for dear life. Captivity of negativity (i.e. obukoowu), in my view, often results from what we feed our minds with (what we listen to, read or watch). So let’s choose to feed our minds with what empowers, encourages, inspires, motivates, energizes and raises us to do whatever we must do. And let’s never forget to network with the right people who are success-minded. That’s why I can’t forget to remind you to come and network with the right people at the coming AUTHORS’ FORUM, which is going to be a gathering of 400 enterprising minds in one auditorium. It’s happening at the National Theatre this Wednesday, 3rd July, starting 5:30pm till 8:30pm. The theme is “STARTING SMALL & GROWING BIG”.
