Hacked JAL Computers Had Info on 190,000 Fliers Nikkei Asian Review (09/30/14) Japan Airlines is promising to improve the monitoring of its IT systems to better detect and prevent cyberattacks like a recent breach that may have resulted in the theft of the personal information of more than 190,000 customers. It remains unclear how the attackers were able to breach the companys systems, although the airline has determined that malware was used to steal the information, which belonged to members of a frequent flier program. No fraud, including unauthorized use of frequent flier miles, has been reported so far. Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing as Japan Airlines begins the process of notifying customers who may have been affected by the breach. A more detailed analysis about the characteristics of the breach is expected to take several weeks.
