Had a great time at the Brisky Family reunion in New Windsor NY with good attendance including some surprise, and welcome, appearances. Lots of great food including some sweet corn picked that morning. The travel on United Airlines was not so good however. It started on the trip out being delayed for a scheduled maintenance check during a period the plane was scheduled to be in the air. Hmmm. Then the plane had no space in front of the aisle seats for a bag, so I ended up having to check my carry-on because I couldnt carry it on, which of course meant that I had to wait an extra 45 minutes at the airport to retrieve the bag and, with the delay for scheduled maintenance, got into Middletown at 10:00 at night. I got to the airport at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning to catch a 10:00 flight to Dulles only to find that it had been delayed until after Noon. Just before Noon, the flight got cancelled altogether for reasons that must have been obvious (at least to a 90% certainty) by the time I got to the airport. By the time they let us know, there were no more spots to Dulles on Sunday. Had they let me know at 9:00 a.m. I might have gotten a later flight to Dulles, or rented a car and been in Herdon by late afternoon. As it was, all I could do is get a 2:40 flight to Reagan National, and then get a cab from National to Reston for over $70! But thats not the end of it. The plane was so small there was, again, no room to carry on my carry-on bag and, the final insult, I was seated next to an enormous woman who made no effort to even attempt to stay out of my seat. I was squeezed into about half of the already pretty small seat while she had her feet on my backpack under the seat in front of me. I think the worst part was that almost every one of the many United Agents I had to deal with seemed to think that I should not be in the least upset by all of this. And the trip is not yet over. I have a 10:00 p.m. flight back to Chicago after my deposition tomorrow. Hope my luck changes.
