Happy Feet! Tips for looking after your feet; Investing a bit of time and thought into caring for your feet now can prevent them causing you pain later. Some of these may seem obvious, some not so much! 1. Wash your feet with soap and water before going to bed. Dirt left on the skin’s surface can become irritated and infected. 2. Dry your feet thoroughly and apply a moisturising foot cream (not body lotion). 3. Use a pumice stone or foot file gently to remove hard skin and calluses regularly. 4. To avoid in growing toenails, always trim your toenails straight across, never at an angle or down the edges. 5. Feet swell as the day goes on so shop for shoes in the afternoon - if shoes fit in the afternoon when your feet are at their largest, they will always be comfortable. 6. Wear comfortable shoes in between times if you have to wear heels at work (for driving, commuting etc.). Only wear your heels in the office and try to vary the heel height, between low, medium and high. 7. Pick the right shoes for the job – heels for special occasions only, trainers for exercise and no flip-flops for mountain climbing! 8. Always wear fresh socks on a daily basis. 9. Wear flip-flops to avoid catching athlete’s foot and verruca’s when you use public areas such as gym showers, swimming pools or hotel bathrooms. 10. Dont wear flip-flops all the time. They dont provide much support for your feet and can give you arch and heel pain if you wear them too much.
