(hmmmIll be 70 by then- If I can hang in that long before the train pull into the station)- that is 4 more Kentucky Derbies- 2015 & 2016 & 20-17 & 2018 and 4 more world series- and 4 more breeders cups- 4 years is a long time- that’s 28 dog years and a foal becomes a handicap hoss!- a baby might get to go to pre-school- and a pimply faced 13 yo is almost ready to march hup one two three into some foreign entanglement- I have to get started on my “book” it will be my 100th attempt to get past page 5 or 10------I mean Ive written many plays and books etc. most of them when I was a very young man- full of awe and wonder concerning the world I found myself in- but shortly after I got married and further after my son was killed in 1996- I lost the “spur” which goaded me to write all the time- I lost my mojo and my muse- it never has returned- any way I got tired of looking at my 6 foot high pile of unpublished opus (and a few published pages as well- The Coe Review & Rashi & Bay Area Poets Coalition etc.) numbers and many years ago I stuck them in boxes and put them into the garage- but now the hour is getting late just over the next rise awaits boot hill or worse feeble-mindedness and the potters field or the state nursing home- yikes- is that the way a dude must go out with a underpaid orderly smiling at my lifeless mug while he rifles thru my trousers! Yikes!- what is there to look forward to> For starters Los Alamitos begins its inaugural run of thoroughbred dates and that should be a rip snorting meet- also just over the horizon are the sterling meeting at Saratoga and Del Mar then we are at the Belmont and I suppose Oak Tree Santa Anita meets and its Labor Day! 2yo racing is always exciting to watch this time of the endless racing season and few good ones who have stepped out of the crowd at this early date have been Bessies Boy winner of the Tremont Stakes & Conquest Tsunami over at Woodbine in their Victoria Stakes- another worth a word or two is west coast stakes winner Wake Up Nick- on the distaff side of reality are stakes winning juveniles Promise Me Silver @ Churchill;l Downs and Fashion Alert on the NYRA wheel of fortune- on the west coast where the sun can be seen 300 days a year Enchanting Lady took the Landaluce Stakes a race named after one of the more amazing race horses whose brilliance was only matched by her bad luck- what the hell- might as well put this stuff in my “book”! 515 words thus far cool as gabbaghoul- Bessies Boy has sensational half sister to Dr. Fager immortal weight carrying mare Ta Wee as its 5th dam- the 2014 Tremont Stakes winner is a ff 1-R individual tracing back to unlikely source of “class” the chubby mare Aspidistra- BB is sired by speed merchant Smoke Glacken out of a Meadowlake mare- all this seems to spell speed to spare a supposition made easier to express after the facts have been established as to the quality of Bessies Boy!
