HOVENSA Fourth Amendment Agreement Special Town Hall Meeting Brought to by SEDI - University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) & St. Croix Chamber Commerce Date: Wednesday, July 31, 2013 Time: 7 pm Location: UVI Great Hall Invited Panelist: St. Croix of Chamber, St. Croix Hotel & Tourism Association, Christiansted Retail and Restaurant Association, St. Croix Board of Realtors, Senator Janet Millin Young (30th Legislature Economic Committee Chair) and Members of the 30th Legislature, Congresswoman Donna Christensen, VI EDA and other Community Base Organization The USVI Government has lost a very substantial tax revenue contributor (HOVENSA), between payroll taxes and annual corporate taxes from HOVENSA of $60 million, two (.02) cents per barrel and the loss of supporting businesses that benefited from the operation of HOVENSA. The refinery is now an oil storage facility, with an estimated 200 oil tanks storage capacity, which is HOVENSA new operating business model. HOVENSA is leasing/renting its oil tanks to the open market. The de Jongh Administration has rejected this new operation and has taken a hard line position, giving HOVENSA an ultimatum of either selling or restarting the oil refinery or faces tough legal and financial penalties. The public is cordially invited to attend and participate in this town hall meeting, to get a better understanding of the proposed new HOVENSA agreement, and how it will impact St. Croix USVI economy.
