Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper - TopicsExpress

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. We have a slightly distorted veiw of what comprises our very existence. We believe that there are but two parts to man; the fleshly man and the spiritual man. Did you know that there are two parts to the spiritual man? The soul and the spirit. Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. At the creation of man we can see the three parts of our existence. The Body was formed, the Breath (Ruach - Spirit) and the Soul (Nephesh). In Hebraic thought, the soul of man is represented by the heel and the spiritual man is represented by the head. The soul controls our desires, emotions and desire to live (the instinct to survive) while the spirit is in alignment with the things of God. The heel and head comparison is mentioned in scripture not long after the creation of man. Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. The passage in Hebrews tells us the the word divides these two parts, the soul and the spirit, showing distinction between the two. The head should be over the heel, shouldnt it? When we allow the spiritual (Ruach) to have dominion over the soul (nephesh), we will walk in alignment with the word of God. We will walk as Messiah walked. A perfect example of spirit over soul is given to us by our Savior! Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. The Nephesh wished the cup to pass but the Ruach said Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.. The fleshly body is merely a mode of transportation for the soul and the spirit.... who is in control of yours? Are you driven by desires and emotions? Or are you seeking to submit to the perfect will of your Creator? Shalom and Blessings
