Help our Heroes Make History in Philly! Check out the latest video of one of our local PVAMC Veteran Athletes, Sean Johnson, who will be competing in the upcoming 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games this summer in Philly, Aug. 12-17! Philadelphia is a sports town, and what better way to get involved than to Volunteer and show your Philly pride to support our Veteran Athletes. Volunteers are the backbone to make the week-long event a success. The Games are co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Over 600 Veteran Athletes will come to the City of Brotherly Love from across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Great Britain. Athletes can participate in 17 sporting events ranging from basketball, swimming, softball, quad rugby, bowling, track, field, archery, and many more. The majority of the sporting events are scheduled at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and surrounding venues in southern New Jersey. The minimum age requirement to volunteer is 14-years old, and volunteer opportunities generally range in 4-hour and 8-hour shifts. If you are not able to volunteer, please come by and cheer on our Athletes as Fans in the Stands. All events are free and open to the public. There is something for everyone! The deadline to pre-register to volunteer is June 15th. You can complete the online application and review our volunteer opportunities directory by visiting wheelchairs.va.gov. To request a hard copy of the volunteer application, or ask any questions, please call (215) 823-7800 or e-mail [email protected].
