Here is a story of one of those life events where God was - TopicsExpress

Here is a story of one of those life events where God was protecting me long before I ever knew Him. When I was 15, I was involved in a serious car accident. It was the day before New Years Eve, Dec. 30, 1988. I was on Christmas vacation from school, and I was bored at home. A friend called me up and asked me if I wanted to go to the mall with her & her cousins. I jumped at the opportunity as I had a major case of cabin fever. I called my mom at work to ask her if I could go. She was extremely uncomfortable with the idea due to the fact that my friend, who was also 15, hadnt had her drivers license for very long AND it was a rainy day. I whined my way into going, but my mom was NOT happy about it. I had been with my friend, lets just call her Holly, in the car on a few other occasions, and there were no issues. Except for the fact that the seatbelt in the front passenger seat was jammed. So I had to ride without a seatbelt. When Holly arrived, I climbed into the front passenger seat, and I heard an audible voice, which was neither male nor female, tell me to put the seatbelt on. I told it that I couldnt because the seatbelt didnt work! The voice became louder and more demanding, Just put the seatbelt ON! Mind you, the conversation between me and this voice was going on inside my head. I complied, and to my astonishment, the seatbelt worked as if it was brand new. I turned to my friend and asked, Holly, did your mom get the seatbelt fixed?? She told me no, that she hadnt had a chance to tell her yet (More than likely, she forgot. We were teenagers, after all). After Holly picked me up, we drove to a small country town to pick up her cousins before heading to the mall. Afterwards, we headed back in the opposite direction. It was a two lane road with opposing traffic, and the weather had greatly declined since Holly first picked me up from home. The road was very slippery, and our vehicle skidded into an oncoming lane of traffic. I saw the Lincoln Town car, felt the impact from my side of the vehicle, and then everything went black. I dont know how much time had elapsed between the point where I lost consciousness & regained it. But when I came to, the first thing I noticed was that I was covered from head to toe in blood, the windshield was completely shattered (from me hitting it), and the passenger door was crumpled into my lap. There were multiple police cars already on the scene, ambulances, tow trucks, a huge crowd was gathered on the side of the road, and the Jaws of Life team was situated on the other side of the passenger door to remove me from the vehicle. To my left, far off from the vehicle, I observed, my friend and her cousins conversing with a police officer, and she was crying & hysterical. Later on, she told me that they thought I was dead. I was the only one in the vehicle to be injured. Once I was removed from the vehicle, which was a delicate procedure for the Jaws of Life team, paramedics placed me on a stretcher with a board underneath me and head gear. I recall one of the medics telling me that it was a good thing that I was wearing a seatbelt because I would have gone straight through the windshield and been killed. Wow! I thought to myself, as I remembered the voice that had spoken to me earlier. Because of the amount of blood I had lost, the medics thought that I more than likely had some serious injuries, which could not be determined until we arrived at the hospital. One of the medics actually stayed with me until he knew I was okay, since my mom was still at work, and he didnt want me to be alone. I even remember his name. Glenn Miller. And the reason why I remembered his name is because, at that time, I was obsessed with The Glenn Miller Orchestra. It was my favorite music to listen to! As it turns out, the only injury I had was a broken nose, which Glenn told me was miraculous, considering the condition of the vehicle and the way that I had been pinned in the car. Over the next several months after the accident, I would literally run into Glenn everywhere. The gas station, Popeyes, etc. I often wonder if he was an angel in disguise :)
