Heres another Shyamalan film I love, and its the one of which I feel less shame in admitting that! This was on TV when I was around 8 or 9, and my parents never let me watch it because they thought Id be too scared by it, even though I would sneak peeks of it and get through it fine (even the scene with the girl in the tent, though at the time I saw it out of context). As time went on, I guess I felt like I didnt need to see it because...everyone ruined the ending for me. Then when I was 12, I watched Signs on TV, fell in love with it, watched the making-of special for it, and thats when I decided to go and rent The Sixth Sense. But I had to keep saying to myself, You dont know the ending, dont know the ending, dont know... Okay, obviously, that didnt work. But it didnt matter. I still loved the movie. And the great thing about it is that I can continue to watch this movie many times and still love it. AND another great thing about it is that while going through repeated viewings, you can appreciate the artistry that went into the making of it. You can notice the little hints and clues and rules and et cetera and so on that show how the paranormal situations in this story work and why the twist makes sense. I love to watch out for these little details each time I watch the DVD. Its clear that the filmmakers went out of their way to make sure that everything was planned out, that when people would see this film again, they would know how true they were to their own movie. Note the subtle foreshadowing, note the little oddities here and there, note the colors, and so forth. I love movies like this. I love The Sixth Sense. Its not just one of my favorite thrillers or horror films or dramas or whatever; its one of my favorite films, period. If I make a top 30, itd be in there somewhere. M. Night Shyamalan has made a masterpiece here. He can make another one, Im sure. He just needs to...I dont know, not make The Happening or Lady in the Water or...for Gods sakes man, go back to working for Disney; they seem to know how to get good movies out of you!
