Hi Poppy, NUS conference is coming up soon and you and the other delegates will be electing the future NUS officers. I was wondering if there was any way that the Guild could promote more open dialogue and debate about NUS policy/decisions. Since the closure of the Guild Development Forum (which I admit was very far from perfect) there is no space that I can really think of to start debates about issues like the NUS where it can build a general awareness among students about the decisions that their delegates with be making/ the political landscape in the national student movement and so on. I have some quite strong opinions about different candidates, and would like some opportunity to discuss them in a open environment rather than rely on individual emails to all my delegates, where I can have no judge of the popularity of my opinions/ what other lobbying the delegates are experiencing. I can imagine that for someone outside of the hack bubble that would be incredibly disempowering - to just weigh in with opinions without any idea of the frame of debate or perhaps any grasp of the issues at hand. I dont really have a solution to offer, especially at such short notice - but I was wondering if you had any ideas? Same goes for BhamGuild VpDemocracy AndResources as this might come under your remit, and the other Sabb delegates?
