Hi everyone...I dont usually post a lot of thing here but I want to share the following essay my daughter Vanessa VEE Ouimet wrote about her great Uncle Calvin who we lost a few months ago. She was attending an assembly as school on careers an she came across a gentlemen by the name of Joesph Lindely she asked him a question his answer blew her way.... well when they got back to class they were given 20 min. to write a brief description of what they got out of it..... well her is my daughters...... it made me so proud of her an brought a tear to my eye ....... Please take a minute an read it an she even posted the photo along with the essay she handed in... In the Alumni career day I had met Joseph Lindely and hes a Historian Author. The reason why he caught my attention was from his display that he had set up, at first I was not going to approach him, but I did, because Istarted thinking about my Native American culture and I wanted to see if he knew anything more about it, or if he has written something on them. It turned out that he has, he asked me what I was interested in and I told him that I was just looking and was interested in if he had something about Native Americans and , and he asked me what tribe I was apart of and I told him Nipmunk, Cherokee and Abenaki. After he looked at me and asked if I someone by the last name Heath? My eyes widened and I told him that Im why yes I am related to the Heaths, and asked him why. He then said the name Calvin and told me that he was writing a book about him the man, my eyes got wide and I started to get goosebumps,I I said yes he is my Great Uncle I then asked him how he knew my uncle and he said he used to play ball with him when they were kids and that he had found out about how he was in the Vietnam war and he saved many lives and even his own,. while in the war. Calvin was injured quite badly, in his back, being shot in his hip and his back tearing open to the point you could see his spine and ribcage and due to the excruciating pain they had him on his chest to be put into the helicopter to be brought to get help, but the man operating the helicopter went against regulations to rescue the injured where Calvin was because the field was on fire and they were under attack, so once he and the others were aboard the helicopter they took off and fled to safety, The doctor who helped Calvin was also injured himself but he did not give up to save the life of Calvin. My Uncle Calvin only went into Vietnam for the love of being a Native American and that it would have been the Native American thing to do, after talking to Mr Lindley, My mind has just been blank, like I couldnt grasp the concept that this man that was standing right in front of me was talking about my uncle, and even writing a book about him for that matter, he told me how had already typed over 345 pages, just about my uncle and how treacherous the war was, he also talked about how if you were to look at him after the incident you would never tell that he was a Vietnam veteran. He was always a happy go lucky man and never let anything get to him nothing brought him down. But unfortunately, due to the fact that he was diagnosed with cancer, and fought it an one, we lost him to a massive heart attack, he has passed away on July 09, 2013.. but if you were able to have meet this man you would have seen that he was a proud man of his heritage and the things he had done in his life. Love you uncle Calvin miss you
