Holy cow, I just picked on a lyric that Id never picked up on before from a song that Ive loved since I first heard it a couple of months ago on pandora and in such few words (& everyone knows that I dont have the skill Of brevity in speaking or writing so i highly respect and am jealous of people who can say amazing things in a few words as possible: Solitide. A waste of a man. I know this is a judgemental statement and I try so hard to not b judgemental but I have always believed they the purpose of life is to connect meaningfully w other people (& be real/honest about and with yourself--how do we grow as people without open honest interaction?). So since Im alrdy being judgemental ill state tht Ive always had a hard time feeling that monks who serve in Solitide do anything for humankind and have instead loved activists like Quakers, Mennonites, and many others (yes, there are lots of religions and groups that do admirable work but I am more deeply touched by people who can step outside of themselves and empathize with and advocate for people that are totally different from themselves and sometimes in fact who everyone else judges and you may be judged for helping them, and no proselytizing is going on (which, i know, might b a problem w the continuance of the religion if u r not finding a way to increase your numbers (like the now extinct I think religious sect, the Shakers, that years ago we visited a tourist town in KY I think tht was the state tht had a historic Shaker settlement and they didnt believe I think in inter course and relations between men and women nor did not proselytize so its no wonder they died out. Not to make over simplistic judgements when I dont know all of the variables but its too bad, if continuance of their beliefs was important as I would assume it would b, its too bad that someone didnt have a little more common sense and ability to think through things to figure out that their religion would die out with both of those beliefs/policies. Its too bad one of their prophets cldnt have had a sudden, circumstantially convenient prophesy like other religions have, to adapt their beliefs to fit the changing reality of the world.
