HomeKit & HealthKit? Apple is now enabling disorganized hardware - TopicsExpress

HomeKit & HealthKit? Apple is now enabling disorganized hardware verticals to talk to one another through them - potentially creating a more cohesive user experience without restricting the user to choice-of-vendor for a particular vertical product. Yes, so long as that user is playing in Apples ecosystem... but thats no more restrictive than a user having to play in Googles ecosystem to reap the benefits of what Google (or Android) has to offer them. The user has a choice of WHICH Android device to buy and WHICH experience they want - and an iOS user will soon have a choice of WHICH external hardware out of a range of certified devices should work not just with the iOS device, but with one another as well. Thats one helluva nut thats about to get cracked. The Internet of Things may very well be a trillion-dollar industry. Google has to convince hardware vendors to use Android as the platform. Apple has to convince hardware vendors to go through the certification process to interoperate with their ecosystem (with the vendors platform choice remaining largely irrelevant). Why should Apple rush to create new hardware when it can make more money (and waste fewer resources) by enabling others to use hardware that already has deep adoption? The game is afoot.
