How many logical fallacies can you find in how the Charlie Hebdo attack is being reported game begins ! Here are a couple of my favorites ( keep in mind that all of these can be attributed to so many other fallacies than the ones i picked ! yay ! ) : 1. Faulty Generalization : a. Hasty generalization : if a couple of Muslims are terrorists, then all Muslims are terrorists + if the terrorist are arabs then all arabs are terrorists + if the muslims were arabs then all arabs are terrorists. A conclusion cannot be based on a small sample. So this settles it for all the xenophobic, Islamophobic and the far rights No to imagration statments . b. Cherry picking : the far right confirming their position towards islam by suppressing evidence. You cant build a conclusion with only the elements you pick. 2. Informal fallacies a. Confirmation bias : media disregarding the death of Ahmed Merabet so as to emphasize on the faulty conclusion in 1.a . You cant give incomplete evidence to back up your conclusion. b. Furtive fallacy : They got/saw it coming argument. You cant say that what happened is because of wrong decisions by the victims. You are avoiding the problem. c. Divine fallacy + Appeal to faith : Its a victory for islam and God etc etc. You cant say that something is true if you cant imagine it to be false and you cant say that one must have faith to accept your argument. 3. The argument that I couldnt pick a single fallacy for : -Updating your picture to one of those that the victims were killed for is racist etc. a. Appeal to emotion : You cant misuse words racism for the soul purpose of making your argument more emotionally appealing. b. Definist fallacy: Criticizing a religion is NOT racism. It has NOTHING to do with race. Religion is a BELIEF/Faith, it and OPINION or CONVICTION therefore can be debated. c. Special pleading : criticizing a religion or what not is a part of freedom of speech . If you believe in freedom of speech, you cant deny criticizing religion. #Share_The_Logic
