Huawei Rejects Reports of Security Weakness Associated Press (01/15/14) McDonald, Joe Cathy Meng, the chief financial officer of Chinas Huawei Technologies, rejected reports on Wednesday that the companys telecoms equipment is more vulnerable to hacking and other security threats than telecoms infrastructure manufactured by other companies. The statement was partially in response to reports in December that the National Security Agency (NSA) had installed secret back doors into telecoms equipment made by Huawei, among other companies. Researchers previously reported having identified vulnerabilities in routers produced by Huawei. According to Meng, there have been no incidents on networks due to security problems in Huaweis equipment. Huawei has struggled to expand in the U.S., as authorities have warned that it may be a security risk. There have also been suggestions that Huawei is actually owned by either the communist government or the Chinese military. Huawei has rejected these claims, and has said that it would release a list of its shareholders and the stakes they own to ease concerns about its ownership.
