Hurworth Point to Point Preview by WILL MILBURN . The Hurworth Hunt will hold their meeting this Saturday at the picturesque course of Hutton Rudby. The opening race is the Hunt Members race which kicks off proceedings at 1pm. Only 5 entries have been received for the opening event; however it is very closely matched between them. Blue Bertie and Ballyanrahan both broke their maiden’s last time out and come here in form, however the time of the latter’s victory was particularly quick and could be the better of the two. Ballabrace needs to shape up his jumping, but the winner could come courtesy of Chernik trained by Lynne Ward, he is the most experienced of these and is a dual winner under rules in his prime. Selection – Chernik The next race is the Restricted race and Alice Petch’s Holderness win also holds an entry here, Mistissio was a credible fourth at Charm Park where the Dapper Fox was only narrowly ahead of him in third. Sposalizio will appreciate this track a bit better, whilst Spruce Up is still inexperienced so is entitled to continue on the upgrade. Skybull is capable of better than what he showed last time and a restricted is within his grasp, however Blackthirteen has the beating of some of these on Charm Park form and continues to go close, so another bold show should be expected. Selection – Blackthirteen The Ladies Open is a very competitive event with the possible participation of Palypso De Creek, who comes here on the back of two hunter chase victories and is the stand out horse by far. Sea Scout is a likely contender for the lead and is a multiple winner in the North, while the Yorkshire contingent could be headed by Poppy Day who bounced back to form at Whitcliffe Grange under Jo Mason, however he may only be at her strongest with a true test of stamina. Palypso De Creeks stable mate Minella Class could be the main threat, a class horse under rules as seen when winning a grade 1 hurdle and reached an official hurdle mark in the 140’s when at his best. As for the rest the only ones to rival the big guns are French Seventyfive, Oaklands Bobby and Dead Ringa. French Seventyfive was going well when disputing the lead at Catterick and coming to grief and could have more to offer. Oaklands Bobby will no doubt employ his usual trail blazing tactics. Selection – Minella Class The Mens Open is next on the card and this could see either of the Bannister pair of Classinaglass and My Old Piano, the latter can be forgiven his latest run where the saddle slipped, where as Classinaglass has not fulfilled the lofty expectations that has been bestowed upon him and suggests that there could be more to come. Any ease in the ground will suit Avinapaddy who is very much on the upgrade and cold be a worthy each way bet, however Dom will be hoping for a re-match with My Old Piano, however will be at a disadvantage on an easy surface. Slick Operator went un-beaten last season and is an interesting contender; he could be a big player if continuing on the upgrade. Selection – My Old Piano The Riders Conditions race means that anyone not defined as a novice receives a 5lb penalty, ones that could take advantage of this is Drill Sergeant partnered by Philip Dennis and Trop Fort ridden by Sally Coates, the latter got off the mark at Duncombe Park and gave his partner her first winner, he was a highly thought of performer under rules and looks to be transferring that to the point to point circuit. Avinapaddy could take the beating here after finishing runner up to Drom at Charm Park, whilst On Holiday was last seen finishing a narrow second at North Carlton and will be hoping conditions remain dry. Selection – Avinapaddy The Open Maiden has been divided and division one looks a very open affair.Ballabrace has shown his ability however struggles to complete due to his jumping and may struggle, Oaklands Somthin has not shown any form this season, but if returning to form could go well for his trainer Lynne Grimston, whilst the only other one with any form is Gortenbuie, he showed up well for a long way at Dalton Park until falling and this former hurdler who ran to a mark in the 100’s could be the one to beat. There is little form from the rest, however Chris Dawson could saddle Silent Law, out of a dual point to point winner this son of Supreme Sound could have more to offer. Danny Cool was placed on both his last two starts under rules, however has a 3 year absence to over come and if doing so could have a chance. Selection – Gortenbuie Division two looks the more competitive of the two maidens and Billy Two Tongues has gone down hill since the start of the season, mainly due to his jumping and may be one not to hold too much faith in. Killmacallogue Bay has been making the frame and could have shown enough to take this, along with Skimbleshanks who ran better at Charm Park last time but may be most effective on a sound surface. Millymonkin was not knocked about to finish third last time and it is expected that further improvement can be made. Six A Side has the strongest form after finishing an unlucky second to Desilvano at Charm Park, the pair were well clear of the rest and its only a matter of time before he breaks his maiden. As for the new comers Belgian Chocolate is a daughter of Halling with a primarily flat pedigree, whilst Bridle Suite is a son of Craigsteel who was purchased in Ireland by the Dawson family. Selection – Six A Side
